Deepak Srivastava, MD – Chairman

Dr. Deepak Srivastava is the director of the Gladstone Institute of Cardiovascular Disease and the Wilma and Adeline Distinguished Professor of Pediatrics at UCSF. Additionally, Dr. Srivastava is the President of the San Francisco American Heart Association. In addition to caring for patients at UCSF Children's Hospital, Srivastava investigates the causes of heart disease and is developing novel therapies for cardiac disease.

Srivastava earned a medical degree at the University of Texas Medical Branch and completed a residency in the Department of Pediatrics at UCSF, followed by a fellowship in pediatric cardiology at the Children's Hospital of Harvard Medical School. Subsequently, Srivastava completed a Pediatric Scientist Development Program fellowship at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.

Dr. Srivastava has received over 20 awards and honors in the field of cardiology, pediatrics, and novel research and currently serves on five prestigious editorial advisory boards. Dr. Srivastava has been an invited lecturer over 200 times since 2000 and been the author of, or contributing author to, over 110 renowned publications in pediatrics and cardiovascular medicine.

S. Joanne Dames, MD, MPH

Attending Physician, California Pacific Medical Center, San Francisco. Instructor, Stanford Medical Center. Spokesperson, American Heart Association

Dr. Dames is an attending staff physician at the California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco, an Advanced Cardiac Life Support instructor at the Sanford Medical Center, and a spokesperson for the American Heart Association.

Dr. Dames earned her undergraduate degree from UC Irvine, a Masters of Public Health from UCLA, and her medical degree from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. She completed an internship and residency at the Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, Washington, specializing in emergency medicine. Upon graduation, Dr. Dames was presented with the Janet Glascow award for “graduation first in her class" from the American Medical Woman’s Association.

Dr. Dames has published and/or contributed to over seven publications, with an emphasis on emergency medicine. She is the holder of over 18 licenses, memberships, and directorships.

Peter W Emblad, MD, FACEP, FAAEM

Dr. Emblad graduated with an undergraduate degree from UC San Diego, and completed his medical degree at the Chicago Medical School. In 2001, after residency training in emergency medicine at Boston Medical Center, he began his practice at Kaiser Permanente San Francisco and, today, serves as the Chief of the Department of Emergency Medicine, Kaiser Permanente.

Additionally, Dr. Emblad is chair of the Emergency Preparedness Committee and helps coordinate the planning for any possible mass casualty incidents or disasters for the hospital, as well as with the city of San Francisco.

As the EMS liaison, Dr. Emblad helps ensure the Kaiser Foundation Hospital San Francisco has a good, functional and open relationship with their pre-hospital providers (i.e. paramedics), as well as the city of San Francisco.

In addition to his work at Kaiser Permanente, Dr. Emblad also serves as Medical Director for the Presidio Fire Department and Golden Gate National Recreation Area (including the headlands, Alcatraz and Angel Island).

Curtis M. Rimmerman, MD, FACC, MBA, CPE

Dr. Curtis Mark Rimmerman is the initial holder of the Gus P. Karos Endowed Chair in Clinical Cardiovascular Medicine. He is a staff cardiologist in the Section of Clinical Cardiology, the Robert and Suzanne Tomsich Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, at the Sydell and Arnold Miller Family Heart & Vascular Institute at Cleveland Clinic. Prior to this he was Medical Director for the Cleveland Clinic Westlake, Lakewood, and Avon Pointe Family Health Centers. He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in internal medicine and the subspecialty of cardiovascular diseases. He is also certified by the National Board of Echocardiography and the American College of Physician Executives. His specialty interests include clinical cardiology, valvular heart disease, electrocardiography, coronary artery disease, preventive cardiology, echocardiography, and stress echocardiography.

Dr. Rimmerman is a native of Cleveland, Ohio, completing his undergraduate studies at Case Western Reserve University, graduating Magna Cum Laude with a degree in chemistry (Phi Beta Kappa). He received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. Dr. Rimmerman completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn., followed by a cardiology fellowship at the Krannert Institute of Cardiology at Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis, Indiana. He continued his education while on Staff at Cleveland Clinic at the Case Western Reserve University Weatherhead School of Management, earning a Master's Degree in Business Administration.

Dr. Rimmerman was appointed to the professional Staff of Cleveland Clinic in 1993.

Nationally and internationally, Dr. Rimmerman has organized and chaired conferences and symposia on his specialty interests, with an emphasis on topics related to electrocardiography and echocardiography. He has published articles and abstracts in leading medical journals on his specialty interests and authored or co-authored chapters in medical textbooks related to interactive electrocardiography, acute coronary syndromes and myocardial infarction. His Interactive Electrocardiography CD-ROM and Workbook serves as an industry standard for electrocardiography education.

Dr. Rimmerman serves on the editorial board of the Journal of the American Society of Echocardiography and Cleveland Clinic Journal of Medicine.

Dr. Rimmerman is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC), a member of the American Society of Echocardiography and a certified member of the American College of Physician Executives.

Dr. Rimmerman has published seven books, two books with Kaplan Publishing. His first book, The Cleveland Clinic Guide to Heart Attacks, was released in 2009. A second book entitled, You and Your Cardiologist was released in 2008. A second book entitled, The Cleveland Clinic Guide to Speaking With Your Cardiologist, was released in 2010.

Nicholas T. Skipitaris, MD, FACC

Dr. Nicholas Skipitaris is the Medical Director of Cardiac Electrophysiology Operations at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City. Additionally, Dr. Skipitaris serves as the Medical Director of the New York chapter of the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Association.

Dr. Skipitaris earned his undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College and his medical degree from the Dartmouth/Brown Program in Medicine. He conducted a post-graduate internship in internal medicine, his residency in internal medicine, a cardiology fellowship, and his Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology Fellowship at Bellevue Hospital Center in New York City (NYU Medical Center).

Dr. Skipitaris has contributed to over ten collaborative research trials, published and/or contributed to three books and presented during more than five times at prestigious, international conferences on cardiology and electrophysiology.
